Robert Malanga, P.E., President and CEO, holds degrees in Fire Protection Engineering as well as in Technology Management and the electrical/electronics field. Mr. Malanga is a licensed Professional Engineerin multiple jurisdictions, as well as a Board Certified Diplomate in Forensic Engineering, a Council of Engineering & Scientific Specialty Board (CESB) Member. For over 30 years, Mr. Malanga has dedicated his career to fire protection, life safety and risk management. As a result, Mr. Malanga is a highly respected professional, who is well-experienced in analyzing the development and spread of fires/explosions as well as evaluating the design and performance of fire protection systems.
Prior to establishing FIRE & RISK ENGINEERING, Mr. Malanga held several high level engineering positions having advanced levels of technological responsibility and experience in the public, private and corporate sectors, as follows:
Most recently, Mr. Malanga was the Manager of Corporate Loss Prevention for Union Camp Corporation (now International Paper), a Fortune 200 manufacturer of pulp, paper, chemicals and petro-chemicals, building products, flavors and fragrances. In that capacity, he was responsible for the worldwide protection of over $10 billion in assets against losses of property, direct profits and market share, as well as property risk management.
Mr. Malanga was previously a senior Project Manager for a major consulting firm, where he administered a multitude of significant and high profile projects. He also served in the capacity as Manager of Fire Safety for the New York City Transit Authority. In addition to protecting over 700 facilities, he championed the implementation of an ultra-high speed system to counteract theft-related firebombings; a system that was ultimately installed in all public stations and has saved multiple lives.
Throughout his career, Mr. Malanga has been involved in numerous legal projects involving the forensic investigation and reconstruction of major fires and explosions, including the interpretation, application and the assignment of responsibility. Mr. Malanga has provided expert testimony on the subjects of fire and explosion phenomena; cause and origin; fire behavior, spread and development; design, adequacy and performance of public/private fire protection systems; fire prevention; fire protection and building codes; fire resistant construction and fire safe building design. Mr. Malanga has testified in a diversity of State and Federal court jurisdictions, as well as in front of the State Senate.
